A letter from Eric
Meyer

Dear Friends,
Over the past year I have proudly served as a member of the Arizona
State Legislature. I have worked to find sensible solutions to the
challenges facing our state. In these tough economic times, having the
knowledge and vision to address the state's budget deficit while
protecting jobs, education and public safety is vital. Since taking
office, I have also learned the importance of having strong advocates
for education and healthcare at the State Legislature. As both a
physician, with an undergraduate degree in economics, and as a member of
the Scottsdale School Board, I have used my knowledge and training to
advocate for bipartisan solutions to our current budget crisis. We need
to ensure that our State Legislature serves as a partner ? not an
adversary ? to schools, educators and children. It is also important to
understand the complexities of our healthcare system, as the choices
that are made at the legislative level directly affect the care
available to our citizens.
Unfortunately, like many Arizonans, I believe that our state is headed
in the wrong direction. I have not supported many of the budget
decisions that were made this legislative session. Most were
short-sighted and will undermine Arizona's ability to grow out of the
recession. We have borrowed, mortgaged and rolled over all that we can
as a state. In most cases, we have targeted children and the most needy
when making cuts.
I must tell you, however, that I am not ready to give up on a better
Arizona. My own two children, Sophie and Clay, first inspired my passion
for public service. As a school volunteer, a school board member, and
now, as a state legislator, my vision for all children continues to be
that they have the opportunity to grow up in a state with safe
communities, affordable healthcare and quality education ? and for that
reason, I have decided to run for re-election to the Arizona State House
of Representatives.
Just over one year ago, I ran a 16-week write-in campaign and won a
House seat in District 11. I needed your help then and I need your help
now. Financial and volunteer support will be critical in my efforts to
reach out to the voters in District 11. To volunteer or to donate to my
campaign, visit my website at:

And please, tell your neighbors and friends. Invite them to get
involved.
Thank you so much for your support.

House Passes Cruise Vessel Safety Legislation
|
|
Read this press release from
Congressman Harry Mitchell's office concerning the passage of H.R. 3360, the
"Cruise Vessel Safety Act of 2009." In the notice, Harry thanks Ken Carver
for his "tireless efforts on this issue." Ken has advocated for cruise
safety legislation since his daughter went missing on a cruise to Alaska in
2004. Ken and his wife, Carol, are residents of District 11. Many of us
appreciate Carol's dedication to the voters in the Rockridge Precinct, where
she served as PC for many years. |
